Review: Terrifier 2 (No Spoliers)

If your ever remotely a fan of the Indie slasher genre then you must have heard of the Terrifier. Art the Clown is back at it again to try and one up his reign of terror from his 2018 debut. Some people have had an issue with the first installment saying the story line isn't good, this isn't good, that isn't good, blah blah blah. I have to disagree with them on every level. The first movie delivered everything it was suppose to. Serial killer (clown is a bonus), lots of bodies, lots of gore, and a big body count. Well Art the Clown is without a doubt an overachiever since he topped everything form the first movie. This review is very limited. I did not want to spoil anything for those who have not seen it yet.

REVIEW

I was overly ecstatic when I heard that the Terrifier 2 was releasing into the theatres. As a huge fan of the horror, blood, and gore this movie was right up my alley. The first Terrifier had our killer Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) stalking and killing on Halloween night. I was satisfied with that alone. Director Damien Leone left nothing in the tank with Terrifier 2. Nothing was held back. Is the movie perfect? Oh course not. No movie really is. First and foremost this movie, in my opinion, put Art the Clown in the conversation with legendary killers in the horror world. Coming in at just over 2 hours Terrifier 2 has enough to satisfy any horror fans movie urges.

The immortal serial killer Art the Clown is back and worse than ever. Just in time for Halloween he is on the hunt for some fresh new kills. His primary targets are a girl named Sienna and her emotionally disturbed brother Jonathan. While both children had lost their father Jonathan had got the short end of the stick when it comes to dealing with it. The kids seem to have some type of predetermined connection to Art .... especially Sienna. A simple storyline is what this is. Killer, target, and killer hunts target destroying everything in his way.

Storyline - 8/10

While the storyline is simple and what you would expect it has been a staple in the horror genre. Some things just never get old and this style storyline is one of them.

Art the Clown - 10/10

I have to say he is built on all things fear. A clown, that kills, and stalks, and thinks it's funny. He is one of the bad guys you either love or love to hate. Either way he gets a 10.

Sienna - 10/10

This is a bad ass character that doesn't even know it. Anxiety fueled in the beginning to absolute bad ass hero at the end.

Jonathan - 7/10

A necessary character for the storyline. He has a required piece of the puzzle for the film to work, but he doesn't shine as much as other characters.

Brutality - 10/10

As horror fans we have have those certain scenes that stick with us. Some unorthodox method of killing. It makes you sit back and think .... who actually dreamed this up. Well there are multiple moments in this movie where you have that thought. Nothing short of flawless in this department.

Gore - 10/10

This is an easy ten of ten. You can expect blood spilling the entire way. Art is somewhat of a professional in this department.

Comedy - 9/10

While this is a horror movie there are some scenes where no matter what is happening Art makes it comical. As brutal as this film is there were parts where I had to laugh out loud. The thing I noticed is that other sin the theatre were doing the same thing. Laughing then looking around to see if they were the only ones. It was just enough to score high, but not enough to make this horror comedy.

Overall - 9/10

It is very rare to give any movie a 10/10. That is saying everything is perfect. I am not so certain that something like that exists. I would absolutely go see this movie again in theatre. I am certain that I will notice things the second time around that I did not the first time. It really is a tribute to the classic slasher films while taking on its own form. I personally hope that we get the chance to see Art the Clown again in another film. Although, I don't want to see him in excess. He is the perfect character that you really want to see. I hope there is a gap in Art sightings to keep us wanting more.
